GUÍA DE LA MIEL DE MĀNUKA
Revisado por el equipo editorial de Mānuka Honey Store · Última revisión: 27 de agosto de 2026
Store Mānuka honey tightly closed in a cool, dry cupboard away from sunlight, heat and moisture, and follow the jar’s best-before date and manufacturer instructions. Use a clean, dry spoon. Crystallisation can occur naturally and does not by itself mean the honey has spoiled.
Does Mānuka honey expire?
Mānuka honey is stable when handled correctly, but it should not be described as lasting forever. Quality can change with time, heat, moisture, damaged packaging or contamination. Use the best-before date and storage instructions on the jar as your primary guidance.
Best-before date vs food safety
A best-before date identifies the period during which the producer expects the product to retain its intended quality when stored correctly. It is not the same as a use-by date. After that date, inspect the unopened or opened jar carefully and follow local food-safety advice. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer or discard the product.
Best storage location
- Keep the lid firmly closed.
- Use a dry cupboard away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid repeated heat exposure, hot cars and positions beside ovens or radiators.
- Prevent water, crumbs and used utensils from entering the jar.
- Follow any product-specific instructions printed on the label.
Should Mānuka honey be refrigerated?
Refrigeration is usually unnecessary unless the producer specifically recommends it. Cold storage can make honey firmer and more difficult to spoon. A stable cupboard environment is generally more practical than repeated movement between cold and warm conditions.
How to store it after opening
Opening does not require a different container if the original jar and lid remain clean and undamaged. Close it promptly after every use. A clean dry spoon reduces the chance of introducing moisture or food particles that can affect quality.
Is crystallised honey still usable?
Crystallisation is a natural change in which some sugars form crystals. The rate and texture vary with floral composition and storage conditions. Crystallisation alone is not proof of spoilage. If you prefer a softer texture, follow the manufacturer’s directions and avoid unnecessary overheating.
Signs of contamination or fermentation
Discard the jar if you see mould, persistent bubbling or fermentation, notice an abnormal sour smell, find damaged or unsealed packaging, or know that water or another contaminant entered it. Do not taste a product that appears unsafe.
Storage mistakes to avoid
- Leaving the jar open or loosely closed.
- Using a wet or used spoon.
- Storing it in direct sunlight or close to a heat source.
- Ignoring a damaged lid, broken seal or leaking jar.
- Assuming that every visual change means spoilage—or that honey can never deteriorate.

Preguntas frecuentes
Does Mānuka honey go bad after opening?
It can deteriorate or become contaminated. Keep it tightly closed, dry and away from heat and sunlight, use a clean dry spoon and follow the label and best-before date.
Should Mānuka honey be refrigerated?
Usually not unless the manufacturer specifically instructs it. Refrigeration can make honey firmer and harder to spoon. Follow the storage directions on the jar.
Why has my Mānuka honey crystallised?
Crystallisation is a natural physical change influenced by the honey composition and storage conditions. It does not by itself mean the honey is spoiled.
Can I use honey after its best-before date?
A best-before date concerns expected quality, not an automatic safety deadline. Inspect the seal, smell and appearance and follow local food-safety guidance; when uncertain, discard it or contact the producer.
When should I discard a jar?
Discard honey showing mould, fermentation or bubbling, an abnormal sour smell, damaged packaging or known contamination.
